Alison studied Garden Design over 4 years at Sparsholt College, Winchester and gained a BSc Hons (1st). In addition, a Professional Development Diploma (PDD) in Historic Building Conservation and Repair was gained over 1 year at West Dean College in West Sussex.

I have a keen appreciation for external green spaces set in traditionally built environments and recognise the positive effect that these places once restored can have on our well-being and quality of life. Gardens are more than an amenity; they are a necessity! The power of nature in which ever environment you live in can be restorative in many ways. My dedication and passion for restoring the ‘spirit of place’ in gardens over two decades has enabled a skill base and expertise to work within a range of different settings in properties in southern England. I believe that firstly it is essential to put your heart into everything you do and secondly to do what you are good at and are passionate about. I am passionate about building heritage and all its components and in particular creating gardens. This drive has been motivated by the deep fulfilment from witnessing the re-emergence of a place, structure or garden landscape to its former glory.

The repair or reinstatement of period features in your garden will strengthen the character of your home. I believe the process of restoring offers extraordinary possibilities for creative expression, historical connection and sustainable development.  There is something quite magical about bringing life and personality back to a garden. I see my role as being an advocate for the garden landscape I am working in. Good design demands proficient understanding of how hard and soft landscaping work together in a harmonious and attractive way. I work closely with selected craftspeople who use traditional building method of construction and appropriate materials that enhance older gardens. The importance of using materials that work well with the local vernacular can never be under stated. Creative flair, imagination and attention to detail make garden spaces special, artistic, beautiful and uplifting.
